Cubicle Refresh

Our office space is getting a complete makeover. New carpeting, new wall colour, and new arrangement will be all starting to come together soon. And I cannot be more excited! I started working with the company three years ago on a contract basis and have been there since. While the final finishing touches and relocation won't happen until a couple months (right around the time when my latest contract is up), I am hoping my contract will be renewed again and again - besides absolutely loving the place where I work and the people I work with, I also am looking forward to getting a feeling for my new cubicle! Because I was always on short-term contracts, I never invested in prettying up my desk that I sit at all day, every day. Which is why I can't wait for this new office refresh to happen so that I can actually tell myself "yes, you do need to pretty up that space of yours!" And searching online, I have found a few sources of inspiration!

Memo boards are so required when working in an office setting. With so many things going on in our lives daily, sometimes you forget or overlook at the tasks that need to be completed. Pretty memo boards like these give you a reason to post up important info!

I just love the idea of wallpaper on the cubicle walls. Ours at work are purple, deep dark plum purple! So it makes the whole area just a teeny bit dark (okay, maybe a lot!). So I like the idea of wallpaper! With tacs to secure, makes a pretty nice and bright backdrop. Of course, I would have to get it okay'd by management first!
In and out boxes are so important to organize the paper piles that oftentimes keep piling up. This also reduces clutter on your desk, which helps you feel a bit more organized. I have always wondered how some manage with piles and piles of paper stacks on their desks, but for me I know I just cannot work like that! Plus, keeping it bright and cheery like this baby blue colour makes staying organized a bit more exciting!
Proper lighting in any office setting is a must. Sometimes, the overhead light from the office is not enough when working on a task, such as focusing in on the small details of a picture or those small words on the text. I might invest in one of these when I change spots!
Finding pens should never be a "where's Waldo" search party in your office space. Having a designated holder for all your pens and pencils is very essential, as well as having an ample supply by your side. I definitely will be saving a couple of cans and searching for some colourful scrapbook paper to make some holders for my space!
Aside from organizing your pens and pencils, you also need to have an organized supply of the small things, like scissors, ruler, paper clips, and sticky notes. Not to mention the other odds and ends you might have (like your emergency supply of snack-size chocolate for times when you are too stressed at your desk!).

New Closet Organization

Ever since we moved in to our home two years ago, I wanted to have an organized and neat closet. However, the standard top shelf and rack was what I had to work with up until recently. Even though I would always get rid of old or no longer used clothing, the closet just kept getting messier and unorganized. So, me and the hubby sat down and thought about what the best arrangement for my closet would be in order to maximize space and keep things organized. This is what we came up with:
As we started taking out the clothing, I remembered to take a few pics. This is that long shelf and rod that ran from one end to the other. Those shelves at the bottom were ones we quickly put together when we first moved in, so you can see just how unorganized things were! I also have large floor to ceiling sliding doors, so bouncing back and forth between the left and right side was a hassle!

I took out all of the stuff from my closet. I also sorted through the clothes and ended up donating a huge bag of clothing I no longer wear.

The hubby moved the shelf and rod 4" higher, put in another rod on the left side, and a tall 1'-wide and 1'-deep shelving unit. All materials used were bought at home depot, cut to size, and assembled at home.

And this is what my closet looks now. The top shelf is still a bit messy, but at least it is all in one place! So now I have my shirts and tees on top and can appropriately match the pants or skirts from the bottom!

And the right side nicely drapes my long dresses and sweaters.

Hello and thanks for stopping by today! I decided that today's post will be on a little organization I was doing yesterday. True story: I went through my dresser drawers to look for some eye drops that I have (or thought I had), since one drawer is my "medicine cabinet." No luck though in finding these eye drops, and with the tears already in my eye from the irritation, it was so hard to even see! After taking some stuff out and finally taking care of my irritated eye, I decided I was going to tackle this area that is oftentimes left unseen and uncared for. It is a place where I shove, store, keep, throw and hide my odds and ends (you know, those things that have no other place in your house where to be kept).

I mean, judge for yourself. THIS is what I saw when I opened up my bottom drawer. Yikes!

The rule of thumb to tackle any organization project is to take out everything and spread it out on the floor. This makes it easier to see what you have, throw away stuff you don't need, or donate stuff that is still usable but you will likely never use. And this is exactly what I did - a keep pile and a donate pile.

  Ahh, starting off with a clean slate, err...drawer!  

When I was at Ikea last time, I bought these SKUBB storage boxes, which come in a pack of 6 with three sizes. I knew I was going to use them somewhere, which is why I bought a pack. And thank goodness I listened to my inner organization voice :)

After organizing my things into each bin, I now have a drawer that looks like this:

I did the same thing to the second drawer right above it. This was the shameful before...

And the nice and tidy after!
