Guest Post - Meet Emily!

Monday, August 26, 2013

Hello hello! Welcome to this beautiful Monday; the last Monday of August 2013. Make sure to do something memorable today! Maybe one of those can be reading a guest post for today from Emily! She is a true sweetheart and I am so happy I have gotten to know her these past couple of months! Between our emails and reading her blog posts, I found out we have quite a few things in common (one of them is baking cookies...recipe to follow!). So go ahead and say hello to Emily!

Hello wonderful Taste of August readers!  My name is Emily and I blog over at Just the Stew of Us. First, let me say Happy Blogiversary to Jovana because that is a fantastic accomplishment in the blog world.  As a new blogger myself, I definitely think it is reason to celebrate.  Secondly, it is so nice of Jovana to ask me to guest post.  This is actually my first guest post ever so bear with me!  Kidding, kidding.Onward.

Here are few little tidbits about myself and my wee little blog:

I am currently living in San Diego with my husband who is a helicopter in the Navy and our German Shepherd pup, Bruce.  Bruce had a floppy ear for the longest time so here is a little throwback to those early days in his young pup life.

We are total foodies and make it a point to try a different restaurant every time we go out to eat.  Whether it be a hole-in-the-wall restaurant or a nicer place, we love trying new food.  Speaking of food, below is a recipe for the most delicious chocolate chip cookies on this planet.  Sometimes you just need a good chocolate chip cookie, ya know?  I found the recipe last year on here and have not used another one since.  I’ve actually eaten two while typing this if that’s any indication.  Brain food, right?

Ingredients
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup shortening (Crisco sticks works best)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 scant teaspoon salt
lotsa chocolate chips (upwards of two cups! do it!)
flaky sea salt

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cream together butter, shortening, sugars, vanilla and egg until fluffy
Add sifted dry ingredients (minus sea salt) and mix till combined
Fold in chocolate chips and drop by spoon onto greased cookie sheet
Sprinkle with sea salt before baking
Bake at 350 for 6-10 minutes (I usually pull them out at about 7:30)

Enjoy!  Thanks again to Jovana for letting me take over her blog for the day!

Hello lovely Taste of August Readers! My name is Charity and I blog over at The Word of A Nerd. I am delighted to be sharing here in Jovana's space because she's a total sweetheart - which I am sure you already know. Thanks for having me girl! In lieu of her Blogiversary Jovana has asked me to share how I started blogging and one of my favorite recipes. So here we go!

November of 2012 I began a blogging challenge with a few friends of mine for one month. During that time we answered questions in regards to our faith. When the 30 days was over I stopped blogging and you know what? I got emails from a few people telling me that they missed my posting and I honestly missed blogging too. So in December 2012 I decided that I would give blogging a third and final chance - I haven't looked back since. My blogging journey could not have come at a better time as I was in the middle of a huge transition, I had moved from Florida to New York City. I left my friends, family, church and business all behind. Essentially I was starting my life from scratch and my blog was a place to put down all the stuff that was in my head.

On my blog I share a lot about my faith. I am not a bible beater but I really love Jesus and I make sure that's known in my space - because it's a huge part of who I am.

I have been married for 8 years to my awesome husband whom I affectionately call Mr.FixIt. We've been married since I was 18 and he was....older. You can read more about how we met here.

I try my best to be honest with my readers by sharing both the joys and the trials in my life. Recently I shared about my hearts deepest desire and the outpouring of support was more than I could have ever dreamed of.

Since I'm a part-time homemaker I share a lot of tips about making my home greener and cleaner all while saving money. Every now and again I also share awesome DIY tips like the one pictured below.

Each week on my blog I share wonderful vegan or not recipes. It was really hard choosing one of my favorite recipes but this Chubby Chocolate Chip Cookie is definitely in the top five. Not only is it super easy and fast to make it is seriously thee most delicious cookie I have ever tasted and I make them at least once a week.

My lifestyle blog serves as a catch all for my adventures as a Christian Wife, a City Dweller, a Traveler of Time, and a self proclaimed Vegan baker/chef. I hope you will stop by to ride the waves of life with me, as I eat, pray, and love.

Hello fabulous Taste of August readers! My name is Chelsea, and I blog over at Anchors Aweigh. I was so excited when Jovana asked me to guest post because, well, I love her blog and that girl is the sweetest. In honor of her one year blogiversary coming up (whoop whoop!), I thought I would share a little about my blog, why I started blogging, and of course my favorite recipe ;).

Hi, I'm Chelsea!

My husband is a Naval aviator, and we are loving this crazy Navy life that always seems to keep us on our toes. I started blogging to document everything I didn't want to forget. Life moves so quickly and everything ends up being a blur at the end, so I love blogging about our adventures, faith, DIY projects, yummy recipes, and of course our pup Jenny.

A Few Fun Facts:

My husband and I have been married 2 years, and I have blogged about every detail of our wedding.

I have an identical twin sister, and we switched places twice in high school. You can read all about that here. It was an experience, that's for sure! Let's just say she was meant to run track, I was meant to play tennis, and not the other way around. We have different hair now, but the face is still pretty similar!

Jenny is our rescue pup and she lights up our lives! You can read more about the dog behind the blog here. She has a rough life that includes sleeping 17 hours a day, eating peanut butter, and chasing cats.

And as promised, my favorite recipe I have blogged about...Nutella Banana Bread! The name really does say it all, doesn't it? Go make a batch right now! You won't be disappointed :)

I'd love for you to stop by Anchors Aweigh and say hello! Thank you Jovana for letting me take over your wonderful blog for the day!

XOXO
Chelsea

Meet Abi {Guest Post}

Friday, April 26, 2013

Hello all on this beautiful Friday! Today I am honoured to have Abi, a sweet gal from Abi's Little Wanderings, guest posting on my blog! She is such a sweetheart and her posts say it all! And she is from Northern Ireland! How cool to meet a friend from almost half-way around the world! Call me weird, but I tend to read her blog in an Irish/British accent! Anyways, make sure to read about her and get to know her a bit! And don't forget to stop over to her blog and say hello! :)

Hey there! I'm Abi and I blog over at Abi's Little Wanderings. I am so excited to be guest posting today for Jovana. I am a huge lover of food as my friends will tell you so her recipes are a great source of inspiration. Most of the time I like the idea of baking but when it comes down to it, I scare myself and usually end up burning something, more often than not it's my hand.

So a little bit about me. I'm 19 from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Currently I am an undergrad anthropology student in Queens University Belfast, and I love it. I have the best friends and family ever (I know everyone says that, but they really are the best). I'm surprised I was able to tell you the basics about me without having to write a huge paragraph as I am most definitely a chatter. I never shut up.
Being inspired is the most wonderful feeling in the world, whether it's a small thing or a huge life changing inspiration all are important and bring out the true passions in my heart. Those who know me well know how obsessed I am with Pinterest, I dread to think how many hours I have spent trailing through various things. In this pinspiration post I am going to be mixing it up and showing you various things that I want to try and do.

1. It's Maxi season ladies
Let's be honest, where I live can be a little chilly so when it gets warmer, when the sun comes out I make the most of it. Flip flops, shorts, sunglasses they all come out of the bottom drawer which is regrettably rarely opened. But my ultimate favourite thing to wear in the warmer months, is a maxi skirt. Dress it up with a statement belt, jewellery some kick ass heels or dress it down with some flats, a baggy tee and a messy bun. It's also unbelievably comfortable, a major plus point.
2. Bringing back the smoulder: If you are anything like me I love a bit of vintage in my life. That cat eyeliner is a must have for any night out and those red lips can dress any outfit up. My answer to red carpet make up but that you don't have to pay for. I am a cheap skate student after all.
3. Sharpie Mug DIY: The easiest DIY from pinterest that I have found thus far. It's unbelievably simple. Get a sharpie, a white mug from a cheap shop and get creative. I did two of these, one said 'hello' and the other said 'Good Morning Sunshine'. Once you have done your design sorted bake it in the oven at 350 F./ 180 C for 20 minutes. Done. And you are left with personalised and individual mugs. Heads up though, don't put them in the dishwasher!
4. Wall Collage
There is part of me that would love to have a run down house so that I can make it quirky and fun. I want to throw in an eclectic mix, like mismatched rugs and vintage photo frames. I also have a slight obsession with fairy lights, my electricity bill must be shocking. Anyway, I am going to plaster one of my walls with photographs. Its a plan.

Shout out to Jovana for letting me guest post! Take a trip over to my blog Abi's Little Wanderings and have a coffee and a chat!

Meet Erin! {Guest Post}

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I want to introduce you all to a lovely blogger that I had the chance to meet recently! She runs the blog Surprised By Joy. Through our email exchanges and reading her blog, I have gotten to know her a bit more. She is truly a sweet person and her blog is very inspirational! I hope you all take the time to meet her and check out her blog!

Hi! I’m Erin from over at “Surprised By Joy” blog.  I’ve been blogging for a little over a year now and I am hooked.  My daughter, over at “The Marvelous Flight of Cara”, is the blogger who inspired me. I chose my blog title for the significant meaning behind it for me:  C.S. Lewis wrote a book of the same name.  Lewis’ aim was to identify and describe the events surrounding his accidental discovery of and consequent search for the phenomenon he labeled “joy”. What I, “surprisingly discovered”, is that I can count it all joy even in trials, and in God’s strength this is how I choose to live life.

So, I began writing about what God was teaching me and what was going on in my life soon after Cara’s wedding was over (December 31, 2011) and my husband and I were officially empty nesters.  I have absolutely loved being a wife and a mother, and now I am in a new season of life, which I also love!   I am pursuing God as never before, learning Mandarin and preparing to move to China in July for four years.  I will be assisting my husband in his class teaching English at a large university and so hope to volunteer at an orphanage in our city!  We’ll establish relationships with the students, and host them in our home for fellowship with the hope of sharing Jesus with them.

When I think about my life so far with all the beautiful memories and also the struggles that have occupied time, I can count them all joy!  I have learned that it’s the trials in life that change me into the woman that I was created to be.   God allows them in my life for my benefit and with His strength and wisdom I can live in joy regardless of what comes along.
